Despite being born just two minutes apart, two Croatian newborns will celebrate their birthdays in different years. As a spokeswoman for the hospital in the southern coastal city of Split announced on Wednesday, one of the girls was born on December 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m., and her younger sister was born on January 1, 2024 at one minute following midnight.
The head of the hospital’s maternity department, Damir Roje, told local media that he had already witnessed twin births on two different days. However, twin births in two different years have never happened. “This is a really unusual situation,” Roje said.
