Man (22) rescued friends from burning house

Five people between the ages of 17 and 23 were sleeping there following a New Year’s Eve party. The 22-year-old fought his way through the heavy smoke and rescued three of his friends, while his father got the remaining two out of the building through the window with a front loader, the police reported.

Fortunately, the flames were prevented from spreading to an adjacent company building. The fire brigades initially launched an interior attack with heavy respiratory protection, but this had to be canceled a short time later due to the high risk of the building collapsing. The water supply at the site was ensured with a kilometer-long pipe from the Steyr. The fire department with 100 people and 20 vehicles was on duty throughout the morning to put out the fire. In order to reach all sources of the fire, the roof had to be opened. A drone with a thermal imaging camera was also used.

The five young people were taken to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Klinikum Steyr with suspected smoke poisoning. The cause of the fire was initially unclear. The material damage is enormous.
