Updated at 10:30 p.m.: A few hours following releasing the second betas of iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3, Apple removed them from download. Although we can no longer download them directly from our devices, they are for the moment still available on the developers portal. We can imagine that they will soon be deleted, and that Apple will quickly publish a corrected version.

Article original : If you were eyeing the new iOS 17.3 beta released by Apple earlier this evening, it’s probably safer to wait for a patch. Many of our readers complain of ending up with a black screen and an unusable iPhone following installation. Same story on Reddit and on Mastodon : in other words, don’t take any risks. The problem concerns recent and old iPhones, and might be linked to the activation of the “Touch the back of the device” function.

If you find yourself having a crashed iPhone, developer Guilherme Rambo has released a little guide with the procedure to follow. You will need to download the IPSW file for the first beta of iOS 17.3 before connecting your phone to your Mac. You must then pass it in recovery mode. To do this, press the volume up button, then volume down before pressing the side button. Hold it down until the Recovery Mode screen appears.

You can then go through Finder to reinstall the IPSW file by holding down the Option key when clicking the restore button (before selecting the IPSW). This will have the effect of deleting your data. Otherwise, iMazing also offers a more flexible restore function allowing you to back up your data in advance.
