Ranchi – The young cricketer of Jharkhand, Sumit Kumar, is in a crisis that he will not be able to play in the IPL despite being called by Delhi Capitals for Rs 1 crore in the Indian Premier League star auction held last month. Sumit Kumar told the national media that his name and details appeared on the screen in the auction, but Delhi was acquired by another Sumit. Delhi Capitals responded on social media that they bought Sumit from Haryana.
“My mother was very happy. They were praying for me. But how can this happen? The names may be the same. But how will the images shown on TV change? My photo and name were there. When I realized that the person had changed, I found it difficult to pacify my mother. Delhi Capitals is a big team. But I did not expect them to play with the emotion of a cricketer. It is very bad.” – Sumit Kumar said.
Sumit Kumar said that Delhi Capitals had shared the picture on Instagram to congratulate him, but it was deleted following hours. “They also put my photo on their Instagram handle. I was tagged in it. When the notification came I was 100% sure regarding the auction. But following a while they removed it. Then I got confused.” – said Sumit.
A native of Bokaro, Sumit has been playing cricket since the age of 10. The 28-year-old played for the Jharkhand senior team in the 2014–15 season. Leaving Jharkhand and joining the Nagaland team as opportunities dwindle. The player has played 20 First Class, 26 List A and 21 Twenty20 matches. During the auction, there was also an incident where Punjab Kings lost their man. The Punjab representatives who summoned Shashank Singh later clarified that they meant another Shashank Singh. But when there were no other options, they included the player they got in the team.
