The first week of 2024 will be windy and wet before the weather becomes drier but also colder next weekend, according to the morning forecast from the Royal Meteorological Institute.
The winter holidays (Christmas) will therefore continue in the rain. This Tuesday, the sky will be very cloudy to overcast with, initially, periods of rain or drizzle. In Gaume and the south of the Ardennes, the rains will be rather continuous. During the morning, all regions will experience continuous and sometimes moderate rain from the west. The accumulations will be significant once more, especially in the south-east of the country. The province of Luxembourg has also been placed on orange alert for heavy rainfall.
It will be very mild for the season with maximums of 8 to 13 degrees. The southwesterly wind will be quite strong to strong, and very strong at the end of the day along the sea. Gusts will vary from 60 to 80 km/h.
Next night, the weather will be choppy with showers and gusts reaching up to 80 km/h inland and, on the Coast, up to 90 or 95 km/h.
Wednesday, the weather will remain choppy with quite a bit of wind, numerous cloudy areas and regular showers but also some clearings at times towards the coast. These showers will once more be more numerous and more marked in Ardenne and Gaume. The maxima will oscillate between 6 and 11 degrees, under a fairly strong wind, to sometimes strong along the sea and on the Ardennes relief, in the southwest sector. The gusts will most often be between 60 and 70 km/h, but they might at times be stronger.
THURSDAY, the weather will initially be slightly variable with abundant cloudiness and a few showers in places. During the day, the weather will become dry in most regions with some nice sunny spells. In the Ardennes, the weather will probably remain gray and rainy. The maxima will vary from 4 to 10 degrees, under a moderate wind and fairly strong southwest coast. During the night from Thursday to Friday, a disturbance will reach our regions from the southwest and will cause heavy precipitation in places.
Friday, the sky will remain cloudy with still the possibility of some rain or showers in places. It will be a little cooler with maximums between 4 to 8 degrees. The wind will be weak to moderate from the west or from variable directions.
SATURDAY, the sky will be gray with sometimes low clouds. The weather is expected to remain dry in many places, although some light precipitation cannot be ruled out locally. Given the significant drop in temperatures, they will then adopt a winter character in the Ardennes. The maxima will be between 1 and 5 degrees, under a generally weak wind and on the moderate northern coast.
Sunday, the weather will be cold with maximums around 3 degrees in the center and 0 or -1 degrees in the upper Ardennes. The sky will be variable to very cloudy with risk of a little rain, and in the Ardennes a little snow.
