A fire broke out on Tuesday followingnoon in a tent adjacent to a bpost sorting center, located on Noorderlaan in the port of Antwerp, the Antwerp emergency zone announced. The approximately 400 bpost employees present in the sorting center were evacuated. The situation is under control.
The fire, which occurred in a sort of temporary extension of the sorting center, broke out around 2:45 p.m. There were concerns for a while that the fire might spread to the building itself, but this danger has now passed. However, all employees were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not yet known.
