DRC: Tshisekedi elected president, opposition denounces fraud and calls for cancellation of vote

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the outgoing president was elected with 73% of the vote, according to provisional results from the Independent Electoral Commission. Results contested by the opposition, which calls for the vote to be canceled. In a unifying speech, Félix Tshisekedi calls for unity. “I am re-elected president of all Congolese, it is in a spirit of openness that I will exercise this second mandate,” he declared.

Also in the news: in Chad, former opponent Succès Masra was appointed Prime Minister of the transitional government on January 1, 2024, according to a decree read on national television by the Secretary General of the Presidency.

Finally, the year promises to be full of important events on the continent and it begins in twelve days with the opening of the CAN. Several elections have been announced: in Senegal from February, then in Ghana, Rwanda and Algeria.
