In Vorarlberg there was a slight decrease of 1.8 percent and Burgenland recorded a significant decrease of 11.5 percent. Vienna achieved the largest increase in exports with an increase of 11.3 percent, followed by Upper Austria with 9.3 percent and Salzburg with 9.0 percent, according to data published by Statistics Austria on Tuesday.
Upper Austria has been Austria’s strongest export state for many years because many industrial companies are located here, which, like the steel company voestalpine, export their goods all over the world. In the first half of 2023, Upper Austria accounted for more than a quarter, namely 27.3 percent, of all Austria’s goods exports. With 15.4 billion euros and a share of 15.1 percent, Lower Austria was the federal state with the second highest export values, followed by Styria with 15.3 billion euros and Vienna with 14.9 billion euros.
Germany remained by far the most important trading partner for all Austrian federal states in the first half of 2023.
