A Japan Airlines plane caught fire on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Tuesday following a suspected collision with a Coast Guard plane. Live images from public broadcaster NHK showed flames shooting out of the plane’s windows. Japan Airlines said all 367 passengers on board and the crew had been evacuated. The plane had come from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido Prefecture.

The TV images showed passengers leaving the plane via an emergency slide while the fire was being extinguished. There was initially no information regarding possible injuries. A huge fireball might be seen when the plane with flight number 516 coming from Hokkaido in northern Japan touched down on the runway. There was an explosion, they said. The aircraft was badly damaged and flames and clouds of smoke continued to emerge in the evening (local time).
