After a somewhat crazy match, Monday evening, Liverpool won at their Anfield stadium once morest Newcastle (4-2), on the 20th day of the Premier League.
The score might have been much higher if the Reds had not found Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka in their path – he stopped a penalty from Mohamed Salah (22nd) – and if VAR had not canceled two goals in the first half-time for offsides of a few centimeters.
After this first period without a goal, the barriers gave way. The Magpies defense, with Fabian Schär, had to lower the flag for the first time in the 49th minute, on a goal from the inevitable Salah.
Isak brought the visitors back to level five minutes later in a match where there was a succession of actions from both sides.
We had to wait until the last quarter of an hour for everything to come to a head. In four minutes, Jones (74th) and Gakpo (78th), on a magnificent pass from Salah, made it 3-1 for Jürgen Klopp’s men. But Newcastle are tough and, from a corner, Botman placed his header (81st) to bring his team within a length.
It was ultimately the hero of the evening, Mohamed Salah who concluded this goal celebration with a generously awarded penalty. The Egyptian scored twice in the 86th minute.
This victory allows Liverpool to take a three-point lead (45) at the top of the standings, ahead of Aston Villa (42). Follows Manchester City (40), which has one game less.
