Neither the NFL nor the Jaguars had any comment Monday regarding the Carolina Panthers owner throwing the contents of a drink into a home team crowd near the end of his team’s 26-0 loss in Jacksonville on Sunday.
The league said it was aware of video showing Tepper’s reaction following rookie Bryce Young suffered an interception with less than three minutes left.
It’s unclear if Tepper is reacting to something he was told or if it was a reaction to another loss by the NFL’s worst team. The Panthers are 2-14 and will not have the first pick in the draft because they traded it to Chicago for the first pick they used to select Young.
The Jaguars also declined to make a statement on the matter.
Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer was standing near Tepper when he spilled the rest of a drink while watching the game from a box.
In 2009, the NFL fined late Titans owner Bud Adams $250,000 for making an obscene gesture toward fans in Buffalo while celebrating Tennessee’s victory over the Bills.
Fans have been banned from stadiums for throwing drinks at players.
It’s been a tough year for Tepper, who fired the team’s first-year coach Frank Reich following just 11 games. Since Tepper bought the Panthers less than six years ago, he has had Ron Rivera, Matt Rhule and Reich as coaches, plus interim stints with Perry Fewell, Steve Wilks and Chris Tabor.
