Control operation: a third of drivers in violation

On the eve of Black Friday, Clément Beaune, Minister of Transport, announced that a national road check operation would be launched to fight once morest social dumping. 3,000 vehicles were checked, a third were in violation. The majority concerns drivers. But, despite our requests to the ministry, we do not know the type of vehicles (LCV, utility vehicles or heavy goods vehicles) controlled and what is the share of French and foreign drivers.

Nearly 3,000 vehicles were checked, both in mainland France and overseas. This exceptional operation and the exemplary mobilization of state services revealed that a third of them were in violation. More than 60% of the violations concerned the drivers’ employment conditions and 15% related to their working conditions.

“Purchasing behavior has major impacts on the environment, on safety, on competition between transport professionals and on the working conditions of drivers in the sector. These effects are increased tenfold during commercial operations on a national scale” according to the Minister of Transport.

“As these figures demonstrate, this operation was necessary and I would like to commend the action of the control services, in particular that of the land transport controllers and the DREAL. They work to respect social conditions and competition rules in road transport. We need to be mindful of our purchasing behaviors throughout the year. Our clicks are not free, they have a carbon cost and a social cost to which we must be particularly vigilant” added Clément Beaune.
