After saying goodbye to 2023, let’s look at what 2024 has in store for us. The coming year promises to be political with elections at home and elsewhere in the world?
As of today, Belgium takes over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union and will have to deal with more than 150 files and manage the European elections which will take place on June 9.
Objective: renew the 720 deputies of the European Parliament, currently dominated by the People’s Party. This is the first European election organized since Brexit and a great first: 16-18 year olds can participate, for Europeans only and this remains a right, not a duty.
But these are not the only elections of the year: there will be federal but also regional elections on the same date. Know that you will have to vote on October 13 during the municipal elections. The provincial elections will be held on the same day.
Elsewhere in the world
There will also be a lot of movement around the world in politics. November 5 will undoubtedly be the most followed political event in 2024: the sixtieth American presidential election will take place.
The outgoing president, Democrat Joe Biden, 81, is running for re-election, as is his predecessor, Republican Donald Trump, 77. However, the two men will have to go through the primaries of their respective parties to receive the nomination.
In March, the Russian presidential elections and the legislative elections in Iran will take place. In May, parliamentary elections will be held in India.
