Sedan, station wagon or SUV? The Kia EV6 does not fit into the boxes and appears to be an atypical model. Incidentally, it allowed the brand to be among the leading electric car manufacturers. It comes second-hand and the prices are quite affordable.

After a first foray into the world of electric cars under the sign of pragmatism with the Niro, Kia took another direction in 2021. Second “zero emission” model from the Korean manufacturer, the hybrid-style EV6 attracts attention. And if it obviously does not please everyone, this funny raised sedan with the look of a station wagon has still gleaned the title of Car of the Year 2022. Which testifies, beyond audacity, to a obvious technical success. Even if we can’t really say that this affects the second-hand rating.

Used, the EV6 starts today a little above €30,000. It’s quite affordable for an electric car of this size (4.68 m), equipped with a large battery and low mileage (rarely more than 70,000 km). Most of the time, you will be dealing with the 77 kWh version with 229 hp propulsion, undoubtedly the best combination to improve autonomy. With it, you will easily cover 500 km in town and almost 300 km on the highway (measured by us). The 4-wheel drive version equipped with a second electric motor placed at the front sees its power increase to 325 hp, but the autonomy is less good. Even more powerful but much more expensive, the EV6 GT offers 585 hp and crazy performance! Finally, a less powerful variant (170 hp) equipped with a 58 kWh accumulator is available in the catalog, but this arrived later on the market and is therefore not yet widely represented second-hand. That’s it for the available versions.

In terms of services, the EV6 is first of all welcoming. This is true at the front but also at the rear with plenty of space for passengers. The other side of this coin is that the chest is not one of the best students. All that remains is to live, this Korean requires time to adapt. Particularly because of the rather complex ergonomics. To simplify the use of essential features, Kia had the good idea of keeping certain physical controls. But we would still like a simpler tree structure in the multimedia system menus. Another point that can be annoying: very intrusive driving aids. Reassuring for some, but sometimes horrifying as they disrupt driving. To be deactivated each time by switching on the ignition!

- Quite logically, the electrical units of the Kia EV6 do not pose any problems. Very rare cases of changes, taken under warranty, but without correlation with the version
- Charger: Recurring problems with electric charging: slow or inoperative charging. Reprogramming does not always resolve the problem permanently
- Electronics: Many bugs affecting different functions: multimedia, GPS, remote control of air conditioning via app, etc.
- Parking Brake: The only recall at this time (June 2022) is for the electric parking brake. A software problem might disengage it unexpectedly, leaving the vehicle freewheeling. The affected EV6s were assembled in July 2021 and May 2022
