The Montreal Canadiens are not having a dream season, far from it. However, the team is doing quite well this year despite several injuries and a lack of goals scored by Cole Caufield, the club’s designated sniper.
Although Caufield has just scored his 9th goal of the season (only) in the last game once morest the Florida Panthers, he gives more in other facets.
Caufield is much better defensively than you think →

#22 has accustomed us to scoring more goals than assists. Last year, he scored 26 goals and 10 assists in 46 games.
This season, it’s quite different, he who only has nine goals, but has 16 assists in 35 games.
Even though he has improved other facets of his game, CC22 still has fewer points than defenseman Mike Matheson.
The latter is simply on fire this year with a collection of 26 points in 35 games.

His 26 points place him second on the club, behind Nick Suzuki, but ahead Ti-Cole.
Still impressive from the Quebec defender, who is on track to shatter his record of 34 points in a season, a peak achieved last year.
It should still be noted that Matheson has never played 82 games in a season and last year, he only played 48 games. If he continues this way, Matheson might get 60 points.
PK Subban was the last Habs defenseman to reach this plateau, and that was nine years ago.
Matheson is the club’s offensive quarterback, and that’s not even a question.
The Quebecer collected an assist on Caufield’s goal during the last match, which was the 500th game of his career.
Moreover, Matheson is now on a seven-game road streak with at least one point. During this sequence, he collected nine points.

In the history of Sainte-Flanelle, this is the sixth longest streak abroad by a defender.
We must say that he is in good company with Larry Robinson, who monopolizes the picture, as well as Andrei Markov.
Will Mike Matheson be able to join Robinson and Markov at the top of the table and possibly overtake them?
Personally, the way he plays, I don’t see why he mightn’t succeed. He has all the assets to do it, even if it won’t be easy.
A lot of
– A very interesting statistic. The table indicates a player’s ability to create scoring opportunities with different facets of the game and there are two CH prospects in the top-5.
