Not much in the world can claim to be trivial. Upon closer inspection, the simplest facts often turn out to be unexpectedly profound. The word “trivial” is very common in mathematical jargon, of all things. It refers to operations in which nothing happens. For example, there is a known trivial number system that consists of only one element: zero. No matter how you add zeros or multiply them together, breaking away is impossible, it always comes back to zero.
