For their first holiday period in their temporary locations, the stalls in the Alès market halls are reporting good attendance.
There was, unsurprisingly, still activity this Saturday and Sunday morning in the heart of Halles d’Alès for preparations for New Year’s Eve. Nothing compares, according to stallholders, to the excitement caused by Christmas Eve. “We had attendance similar to that of usual weekends,” says Karim Mezghenna, president of the Abbey market traders.
Good activity in December
However, even if the last days of the year were of the usual average for commercial activities, the month of December promises to bode well for the stallholders of the market halls, who experienced their first Christmas celebrations in the temporary halls installed in the parking lot of Alès town hall.
“Overall, the holiday period went very well!” continues Karim Mezghenna, who maintains that the stallholders achieved “an identical figure compared to our usual location”, therefore equivalent to the business carried out when they were still in the old halls before their closures for work.
For this first year of transition, because the new hall building is planned, at least, for spring 2025, Alesian traders seem to have been able to maintain the spirit of loyalty towards customers. A success due to the quality of the products and the service provided according to the president of the stalls. “Coming here, customers come for specific products. They know they will find what they are looking for. So parking in the city is not necessarily the problem!”
