The call for donations launched by the Georges-Pompidou hospital, in Paris (15th arrondissement), surprised more than one. On its account “.
For the hospital, obtaining such a tool would represent “a major scientific advance” allowing “better diagnostic accuracy”, “better monitoring of cancers” or even “new research opportunities”. A scanner that would be “put at the service of all specialties”, promises the public hospital on the prize pool page. The Georges-Pompidou establishment would be the third to have such a scanner in France.

“Ubuesque situation”
Everyone can donate the amount of their choice. But very quickly, many Internet users reacted to this approach. “I don’t want to be rude, but that’s what our taxes are already used for? » asks an X user.
Some opposition deputies were outraged that a hospital establishment had come to call for donations to acquire equipment. “A public hospital forced to call for donations to finance the purchase of a scanner while Macron force-feeds his friends,” denounces LFI deputy Thomas Portes. Same indignation for Yannick Neuder, deputy of the Republicans, and himself a cardiologist, who denounces “a grotesque situation”.

For its part, the hospital recalls that “calls for donations are very frequent and intensify particularly every December which marks the end of the fiscal year”. The health establishment also notes that the same call for donations for this scanner was shared in November, without this causing as many reactions.
