“We have requested a Security Council meeting on Belgorod for 3:00 p.m. New York time,” Russian deputy ambassador to the United Nations Dmitry Polianski said on Telegram.

“The terrorist attack in Belgorod will be the subject of a procedure at the UN Security Council,” declared the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“Behind this terrorist attack is Great Britain, which, in coordination with the United States, is inciting the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist actions, because it recognized that the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces had failed,” he said. added Ms. Zakharova, quoted by the state agency TASS.

Russian authorities say at least 14 people, including two children, were killed in the Ukrainian rocket attack on Belgorod. The number of injured stands at 108.

The town of Belgorod, bordering Ukraine, has been bombed several times since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of that country in February 2022. The damage and casualties in Russia are far from comparable to those experienced by Ukraine.
