“They are ugly, bulky and dangerous,” denounces Yves Rouyet (Ecolo). The Ixelles alderman announces that the municipality is removing four giant panels on Boulevard Général Jacques.

“It won’t take us 40 years to do the job”: The Régie des Bâtiments removes an advertisement from the scaffolding of the Palais de Justice

”There was no reason to renew the planning permit for these two double-sided raised devices (2x16m² and 2×18.5m²) located on either side of Boulevard Général Jacques, at the Gare de Etterbeek-Ixelles.”

Renewal requests had been submitted by SNCB, Infrabel and the owners. But an unfavorable opinion was given by the Ixelles consultation commission. The alderman reminds that the panels must have a permit, limited to 9 years.

“The job of is to attract the eye. Now is not at all the time to distract the motorist.”

Contacted, the Ixelles representative explains to us that he sees a double problem in these panels. On the one hand, a heritage aspect: these signs spoil the view of the Barracks. On the other hand, the impact on road safety: this Couronne-Jacques intersection is in fact an area with a concentration of accidents. “The job of is to attract the eye. Now is not at all the time to distract the motorist.”
