British actor Tom Wilkinson, twice nominated for an Oscar and best known for his role in “The Full Monty,” has died at age 75, his family announced.
In a statement announcing his death, his family said: “It is with great sadness that Tom Wilkinson’s family announces that he passed away suddenly at his home on December 30. His wife and family were by his side.
“The family requests that their privacy be respected at this time.”
During a career spanning almost 50 years, Mr Wilkinson, who is originally from Yorkshire, received two Oscar nominations.
The first was Best Actor for his performance in the drama “In the Bedroom” in 2001.
He was also nominated for best supporting actor for his performance in the legal thriller “Michael Clayton” in 2007.
Wilkinson also won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Benjamin Franklin in the 2008 HBO series “John Adams.”
Born in 1948 in Wharfedale, Yorkshire, Wilkinson moved with his family to Canada as a child, but returned five years later.
