Nika Prevc won the premiere of the women’s “half” Four Hills Tournament. The German jumpers mightn’t quite live up to expectations; Lisa Görlich was the best DSV jumper in tenth place.

The German ski jumpers had no chance in the fight for the podium places at the premiere of the Two Nights Tour. Luisa Görlich took tenth place as the best athlete from coach Thomas Juffinger’s team. Nika Prevc from Slovenia secured victory in front of 3,500 spectators at the Great Olympic Ski Jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ahead of Norway’s Eirin Maria Kvandal and Abigail Strate from Canada. Three-time world champion Katharina Schmid, formerly Althaus, ended up in twelfth place as the second-best German.

She doesn’t really know why things haven’t gone as usual for her so far this season. “It’s not because of the material,” the 27-year-old said on ARD and spoke regarding the lack of self-confidence. On New Year’s Day we continue in her beloved hometown of Oberstdorf. “I’m really looking forward to jumping at home,” said Schmid.

The Two Nights Tour is intended to be the next step towards a Four Hills Tournament for women. In the two Austrian towns of Innsbruck and Bischofshofen there are no World Cup competitions around the turn of the year.

Horst Hüttel, sports director at the German Ski Association (DSV), expressed reservations regarding the prospect of the tour on Saturday. “Of course the women want a Four Hills Tournament at the end. That’s their dream,” said Hüttel. “And if the athlete is no longer allowed to dream, then I think he can stop. And they dream and it’s also realistic to tackle it one day.” He didn’t want to commit to a specific time. The DSV and the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) have been in discussions regarding a tour for women for years.
