“We’re the good guys“, pleads Didier Raoult in each post on of the University Hospital Institute (IHU) Mediterranean Infection…
In his temple at the IHU, the portrait to the glory of Raoult was however taken down. And the ex-director was asked to leave the office he kept there. But although retired for more than two years, criminally prosecuted and widely discredited by his peers for his wild therapeutic trials, Didier Raoult continues to pull strings at the institute he founded, where his disciples stubbornly refuse to enter. the row.
“Friendly“, that is to say faithful to the Raoultian cause, Professor Matthieu Million, head of the day hospitalization department; Philippe Parola, head of the acute infectious diseases department and Philippe Brouqui, infectious disease specialist, put online, in Last October, a pre-print and published studies co-signed by Raoult on the use of hydroxychloroquine in more than 30,000 patients infected with Covid.
Carried out outside the regulatory framework and despite the ban on this treatment outside of therapeutic trials, these publications were experienced by the authorities as yet another provocation of “Raoult’s gang“.
To respond, a very exceptional procedure for referral to the disciplinary jurisdiction of university hospital staff (JDHU) was jointly initiated by the Minister of Health Aurélien Rousseau (just before his resignation from the government) and his counterpart in Research, Sylvie Retailleau .
In a letter dated December 18 to the president of the JDHU, the ministers accuse the three doctors of “not having respected the requirements of scientific integrity“, having “violated the regulations relating to research on human beings“, and so “damaged the scientific reputation of institutions“who use them. In response to the “seriousness of these facts“, of the “disciplinary proceedings” are claimed.
After the CNRS and Inserm, the IRD withdraws
Seized only 17 times since 2016, the JDHU has a range of sanctions: warning, reprimand, suspension of remuneration, reduction in step or even automatic retirement. In this case, their departmental leadership might be withdrawn from the three practitioners in question, an exceptional sanction which might, according to our information, be decided as a precautionary measure.
And as bad news never comes alone, the management of Vitrome, one of the four research units of the IHU, has just been taken away from Philippe Parola by Aix-Marseille University.
It is true that Vitrome (vectors, tropical and Mediterranean infections), and Mephi (microbes, evolution, phylogeny and infections), another Joint Research Unit created by Didier Raoult, have just lost one of their labels. The Institute for Research and Development (IRD) has not renewed its supervision (and its funding) over these units.
In 2018, the CNRS and Inserm had already ended their partnership with the IHU. But on X, Didier Raoult remains calm: “We’re still here and we’re the good guys.”
