After a strike last week, new cancellations affect Eurostar this Saturday. “Our trains are canceled due to the temporary closure of the tracks near London,” the railway company announced this Saturday morning. “Flooding has occurred in both railway tunnels near Ebbsfleet International, meaning both tunnels are closed,” the railway company also writes.

“Due to an infrastructure problem on the high speed line near London, we are forced to cancel some trains to or from London on Saturday 30 December,” she said in a press release. 14 trains were canceled this morning and 15 more during the day.

As a result, “no train can run” between Saint-Pancras International, the Eurostar departure and arrival station in London, and Ebbsfleet International, she adds. “We are working to resolve the flooding” in the tunnels, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) South Eastern Railway. These floods on the tracks affect, in addition to Eurostar traffic, train traffic linking London and the south-east of England.

“Eurostar has unfortunately had to cancel 15 other trains to and from London due to the situation which is not improving with flooding in the tunnels between St Pancras International and Ebbsfleet,” announced early this followingnoon Eurostar, which specifies that “Network Rail continues to do its utmost and will inform Eurostar if services can continue later today” and says it is “extremely sorry for the unforeseen problems affecting our customers and our services”.

“We hoped that a solution would be found quickly, but the work took even longer. We have no visibility on the resumption of traffic (…) Those whose train has been canceled will be able to be reimbursed and will be able to try to find another place. But given that the traffic is at a standstill, it will be very difficult… Especially since all the trains were full, or almost, for this holiday weekend…”, comments the management of Eurostar.

Heavy rains still expected this Saturday

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused,” writes Eurostar on its website. “We understand this is a crucial time to get home at the end of the holidays and before the New Year. We are doing everything we can to remedy the situation. Customers are encouraged to visit the Eurostar website for more information regarding their journey and their rights to compensation,” Eurostar added early this followingnoon.

On December 21, in the middle of the holiday departure period, Eurostar passengers were already faced with numerous train cancellations due to a surprise strike which paralyzed the Channel Tunnel. A total of 30 trains were canceled that day, leaving thousands of travelers without a solution. Some then turned at the last moment to the bus or the plane, in the hope of reaching their loved ones in time to Christmas. There Eurostar circulation finally resumed on December 22.
