Utah Valley Falls to Boise State 85-63: Trevin Dorius Scores Career-High 20 Points

BOISE—Trevin Dorius scored a career-high 20 points and Tanner Toolson helped with 11 to lead Utah Valley in an 85-63 setback to Boise State on Friday night at ExtraMile Arena in Boise, Idaho.

The game wraps up non-conference play for the Wolverines who fall to 6-7 with the loss. Boise State improves to 9-4 overall and extends its home win streak to 21 games, which is tied for the best home win streak in the nation.

Dorius scored his career-best 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field and a 6 of 8 mark from the free throw line. He also pulled down four rebounds with one steal.

Toolson was in double figures with 11 points, knocking down 2 of 5 shots, including a shot from long range. He connected on 6 of 7 shots from the charity strip. He also dished out three assists with a pair of steals.

Drake Allen was also in double digits with 10 points, while Trevan Leonhardt and Osiris Grady each added five.

As a team, Utah Valley shot 38.8% (19-49) from the field with a 13.3% (2-15) mark from beyond the arc. Boise State shot 55.4% (31-56) from the floor with a 41.7% (5-12) clip from long range.

Boise State outscored UVU 52-34 in the paint and outrebounded the Wolverines 42-24.

Utah Valley now returns to Orem to open WAC play on Thursday, Jan. 4 once morest California Baptist. Tip-off at the UCCU Center is set for 6 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half

The two teams played through four ties and one lead changed over the first eight minutes of the game with Boise State taking a 15-12 lead with 12 minutes to play in the first half. The Broncos then scored eight of the next 12 points to take an eight-point, 23-15, lead with nine minutes on the clock. BSU held on to its eight-point lead, 28-20, with 6:46 to go in the half, but then used an 11-2 run over the next 2:42 to extend its lead to 17 points, 39-22, with four minutes to go. UVU and BSU played evenly over the final four minutes as the Broncos held on to their 17-point lead, 48-31, at the break.

2nd Half

UVU and BSU each scored eight points through the first four minutes of the second half with Dorius helping with five of those points as Boise State held onto its 17-point lead, 56-39, with 16 minutes to go. BSU mightn’t gain any ground on its lead over the next seven minutes as the Broncos continued to lead by 17 points, 67-50, with 8:45 remaining. Boise State then used an 8-1 run over the next two minutes to extend its lead to 24 points, 75-51, with seven minutes to go. The Wolverines responded with four of the next six points to cut the BSU lead to 20 points, 77-57, with five minutes remaining on the clock. BSU outscored UVU 8-6 over the final five minutes to secure the 85-63 win.
