From January 15, the train ticket will be 45% more expensive, in accordance with the provisions of the National Transportation Secretariat.

With this increase, the minimum ticket for the Mitre, Sarmiento, San Martín and Urquiza lines will cost $48.38 with SUBE and $150 in cash, while for the Roca, Belgrano Sur and Belgrano Norte lines it will rise to $37.38 with card UP and $115 in cash.

“Passenger rail transport is heavily subsidized by the National Government, with the amount of the monthly subsidy transferred to railway operators equivalent to 98% of the operating cost, which is the product of a mistaken public policy of freezing rates of the then Ministry of Transportation,” the Ministry of Transportation indicated in a statement.

And he explained: “This distortion generates the effect that the provision of passenger rail transport service, and particularly that provided by private operators, is financed almost entirely by public funds, since 98% is covered by the national government and only 2% of its income comes from a genuine source, that is, what passengers who use the service pay.
