A new flavor from the Doritos and Cheetos brands is so spicy that workers at a factory in Australia are struggling to work in healthy conditions.

A complaint was sent to the government agency SafeWork through the union following several workers were bothered by side effects such as persistent coughing, violent sneezing, even skin rashes and sore throats.

It is the Smith’s Snackfoods company, a subsidiary of the multinational PepsiCo which produces “Flamin’ Hot” chips, which is the subject of the grievance.

“Employees raised significant safety concerns regarding the improper handling of strong products and irritating substances,” reads the document filed on behalf of Guangzhao Chen.

“The seasoning disperses from the production area of the seasoning machine.”

A PepsiCo spokesperson told the outlet The Guardian that the safety of its employees was the company’s top priority.

“We follow a number of safety procedures and protocols when producing products containing spicy seasonings,” the spokesperson said.

SafeWork is reviewing the union’s complaint to determine whether additional measures might apply.

A previous complaint filed by the union in January cited a buildup of seasoning dust, but did not mention any harmful effects on workers’ health.
