Dispute in Steyr escalated: 22-year-old stabbed opponent

An argument between two young men, both from Syria, got completely out of hand on Christmas Eve in Steyr. The 24-year-old and his opponent, who was two years younger, got into an argument around 7:40 p.m. for reasons that are still unclear. The situation got so heated that the younger man stabbed his opponent in the back. The 24-year-old was treated by paramedics and then taken to hospital, while the 22-year-old fled the scene.

After extensive investigations and searches, the perpetrator was caught in a relative’s apartment. He is said to have been drunk at the time of the crime. The young man was taken to the Steyr police detention center and, following consultation with the public prosecutor, has now been transferred to the Garsten prison. When he was questioned on Christmas Day, he said he mightn’t remember anything, the police said on Monday evening. Further investigations are ongoing.
