Update from December 29th, 10:17 a.m.: Russia may have used an unprecedented number of missiles in its latest attacks on Ukraine. “About 110 rockets were launched, most of them shot down,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Friday his Telegram channel. The highest officially reported number of Russian missiles fired into Ukraine in one day was over 90.
According to Zelensky, the damage was extensive in the civilian sector; a maternity ward, educational institutions, a shopping center and many private residential buildings were hit, he said. He accompanied the statements with a video that, among other things, showed a completely destroyed shopping center. At least ten people were killed and more than 70 injured in the largest Russian attack in recent months.

Update from December 29th, 10:07 a.m.: After the Russian attacks on Friday morning, Ukraine is talking regarding the heaviest air strikes in a long time in the Ukraine war. “We haven’t had so many red enemy targets on our monitors for a long time,” Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat said on Ukrainian news television.
Kinschal hypersonic missiles, S-300 ballistic missiles, various cruise missiles and long-range drones of Iranian design were used. Around 18 strategic bombers were in the air. “Practically everything flew except Kalibr cruise missiles,” the spokesman said.

Serious attacks by Russia: dead and injured in the Ukraine war
Update from December 29th, 9:20 a.m.: Russia massively attacked Ukraine this morning. Drones and rockets struck several Ukrainian cities, including in western Ukraine and Kiev, and residents fled to air raid shelters. Details regarding the victims of the wave of attacks are now known: According to authorities, at least six people were killed and more than three dozen injured across the country.
In Lviv in western Ukraine, one person died in the attacks, Ukrainian Governor Maxim Kozjtskyj announced on Telegram. According to Andriy Sadowy, Mayor of Lviv, there are also eight injured. Apparently four people were killed in Dnipro. According to Ukrainian media reports, a maternity hospital and a shopping center were hit in Ukraine’s fourth largest city.
In Kharkiv, a man (35) died and at least eleven people were injured, the local governor Oleh Sjniehubow announced on Telegram. He said that a medical building and several warehouses were also hit by Russian missiles in Kharkiv.
At least seven people were injured in the drone and rocket attacks in Kiev. Several residential buildings were also damaged and there was also an explosion in a subway station. Like Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko according to the Ukrainian news portal The Kyjv Independent announced that three people are currently still lying under the rubble of a partially collapsed warehouse building. Update from December 29th, 8:44 a.m.: The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has revealed new details regarding Russia’s losses. According to the Ukrainian daily newspaper Ukrainska Pravda 850 Russian soldiers have been wounded or killed in the past 24 hours. According to the information, Russia also lost 13 tanks, 18 armored vehicles, 26 artillery systems, three air defense systems and 36 drones in one day. Ukraine News: Explosions in Kiev following Russia’s attacks – appeal from Vitali Klitschko
Update from December 29th, 7:35 a.m.: Shortly before the end of the year, Russia is once once more massively attacking Ukraine. Explosions were heard in Kiev in the morning. Mayor Vitali Klitschko called on the people via Telegram to seek protection. Local media also reported explosions in Kiev. Loud Kyiv Independent City authorities reported further explosions shortly followingwards. According to authorities, a high-rise apartment building caught fire. The city administration said there were injuries.
Ukraine News: Russia attacks several cities in Ukraine
First report from December 29th: Kiev – Russia once more massively attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles from various directions during the night. There was an air alert in large parts of the country. There were reports of impacts and explosions early in the morning in the cities of Lviv in the west and Kharkiv in the east of the country. In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov spoke of a “massive attack” in which “at least six explosions” were heard.
The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, said there were two attacks. In Odessa, a high-rise building caught fire in “another enemy attack,” according to Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov. It was hit by debris from a downed drone.
News from the Ukraine war: Zelensky calls for a fight once morest Russia in 2024
In view of uncertain military aid for the next year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphatically called on the global community to unite in the fight once morest Russia’s aggression. “Russian terror must be defeated. Terror must always fail. And all of us in the free world must ensure this together,” said Zelensky in his evening video address. Everything must be done to ensure that everyone shows “strength together” in the coming year. Zelenskyj thanked Pope Francis for his wishes for peace in Ukraine and the USA for a new military aid package.
Ukraine News: Russia is expanding arms production
In Russia, however, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin was informed by Sergei Chemezov, head of the Rostech company, regarding a “massive expansion” of arms production. The production of ammunition for firearms has increased 50-fold and the production of tanks has increased seven-fold, said Chemezov. He did not give any specific numbers.
