27-year-old Igor Tudoran wanted to become an electrician. Hamas’s attack on October 7th occurred while the work was being carried out.

With this, Igor, who was part of the reserve force, had to join the war for Israel. But he never thought it would change his life so much. He was only in the Gaza Strip for 12 hours.

While sitting inside a war tanker, a missile hit him and seriously injured his leg. Later the right leg had to be amputated below the hip. In his hospital bed, Igor laments that he never thought the war would turn his life so upside down.

Igor was just one of many Israeli soldiers wounded in the war. The medical costs of wounded soldiers and their lives will be a huge burden for Israel even following this war. Those who are working for them accuse that the country is not yet ready to fulfill their needs even though so many people have been injured.

Aden Kleiman, head of the nonprofit Disabled Veterans Organization, says the experience has never been so intense. It is an organization of people who work for those injured in conflicts. Kleiman, who was injured in an attack on the Gaza Strip in the early 1990s, said the rehabilitation of soldiers wounded in the war with Hamas should be ensured.

Israeli authorities do not understand the severity of the situation. Kleiman added that the organization has tripled its membership to take care of them.

Israel’s Defense Ministry estimates that around 3,000 of its security forces have been injured since October 7. Israel says 167 people were killed. However, Hamas states that the number of injured and killed is many times this.

“The number of soldiers to be resettled in Israel will have a huge impact. It will solve problems economically and socially’ – said Yagil Levy of Israel Open University.

Military service is compulsory for most people in Israel. Therefore, the plight of injured soldiers has started to emerge as a very emotional issue in the country.

The country gives a grand farewell to the soldiers who died in the war. Their names fill the news headlines. The army provides all kinds of support to the families. However, this is not the case with the injured. Those who work in this field say that they are in a bad situation where they have to suffer for the rest of their lives.

Many seek refuge in solitary confinement. They say that despite so many dead and wounded, Israel has not changed its approach to war. Sheba Medical Center, Israel’s largest hospital, is filled with war-wounded soldiers and civilians.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently visited the hospital. He told the injured soldiers that you are the real brave.
