The municipal councilor of the City of Namur, Vincent Maillen, leaves the Engaged, the party of Maxime Prévot, for the MR. This was announced by the Reform Movement at a press conference this Wednesday.

While Les Engagés have achieved political success in recent months by attracting several personalities (including former minister MR Jean-Luc Crucke), it is the turn of the liberals to draw on the reserves of the turquoise party. Vincent Maillen will be head of the lists for the regional elections in the Namur constituency.

In itself, the arrival of Vincent Maillen among the blues will probably not change the electoral campaign. But it perhaps begins the rise in power of the MR in view of the deadlines of June 9.

The transfer of Jean-Luc Crucke to Les Engagés leaves a bittersweet taste for MR

In a press release, the MR presents the ex-Engagés as “an entrepreneur from Namur, host of the Facebook page ‘Je suis Indépendant’ created during the Covid crisis to help people affected by business closures during this period ”.

“Vincent Maillen created his company, active in the construction sector, in 2002 in Namur and continues to make it prosper today in parallel with his political activity, the press release further specifies. As a prelude to his entrepreneurial destiny, Vincent Maillen served in the air force and obtained his pilot’s license.”

“I am asked to defend values that I believe in, I adhere to,” declares the future head of the MR list in Namur. With the head of the list in the Region, I will be able to focus 100% on the defense of the independents and help create wealth with complete peace of mind… The independents are a fabric of incredible wealth, we must put them in a serenity of work and desire to undertake. We have to help them.”

Other arrivals at the MR are planned

This arrival is part of a broader program of opening up to new profiles, announced Georges-Louis Bouchez, the president of the MR. Also this Wednesday, but this time in the province of Luxembourg, the liberals announced the arrival in their ranks of Thierry Neyens. The former boss of Walloon Horeca will appear as the first substitute for Willy Borsus on the regional list of the MR. He is the current boss of The Arlon hotel-restaurant “Le Peiffeschof”. The head of the MR group in the Chamber, Benoît Piedboeuf, will lead the federal list of the MR in Luxembourg.

These two names – Vincent Maillen and Thierry Nevens – serve as a reminder that in the eyes of the MR, the liberal political family is the natural breeding ground for independents and entrepreneurs. This vision of things is also a response to the push from Engagés who had announced some good gains in the private sector. Notably, Olivier de Wasseige, the former boss of Walloon bosses. Or Yvan Verougstraete, the former CEO of Medi-Market (the chain of para-pharmacy products).

The Horeca sector is returning to its pre-crisis level but concerns persist: “Anyone who does not pass on inflation to their prices will go bankrupt”

Arrivals and transfers to the Liberals should continue in the coming weeks, we are told from a good source. Generally speaking, the Reform Movement will present the names of candidates who will occupy strategic places for the next elections during the wish tour that the party will start on January 7 in Walloon Brabant, in Louvain-la-Neuve.
