Total project scope of around EUR 54 million over up to 10 years. First toll hardware that complies with EU taxonomy
Vienna (OTS) – Vienna/Berne, December 27, 2023 – A joint venture between Kapsch TrafficCom and the Swiss LOSTnFOUND AG (part of AddSecure) has been awarded the contract for the delivery of hardware and services by the Swiss Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (BAZG). for the national truck toll system. Kapsch TrafficCom will make a central contribution and generate a low double-digit million amount.
The total financial scope of the contract is around EUR 54 million and has a term of eight years, with an optional two-year extension. In a 50:50 joint venture with the local partner company LOSTnFOUND AG (part of AddSecure), the project involves customer service, vehicle equipment and data collection for trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons. This makes the toll collection system much more user-friendly and transparent.
Michael Weber, Head of Sales EMENA at Kapsch TrafficCom, comments on the success: “We are pleased to be making a central contribution to the renewal of the Swiss toll collection system with our hardware and software. In addition, our on-board device is certified in accordance with the EU Climate Change Taxonomy Regulation.”
The project includes the delivery of the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System)-capable on-board devices for the vehicles subject to the toll, the collection of the GPS data registered by the devices, their transmission to the federal office responsible for toll collection, and customer service.
TÜV-certified vehicle equipment
To equip trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons with the GNSS on-board device, the on-board device itself and the basic processes such as vehicle registration, delivery and repair of the devices are provided. Kapsch TrafficCom devices are TÜV-certified and proven to be the most sustainable in their class.
Data collection via mobile communications
The on-board device determines the waypoints using GNSS localization, records trailer parameters and total weight, and transmits this driving data to the joint venture provider’s back office/IT system via the mobile communications network. The driving data is processed there and then handed over to the BAZG for processing.
Multilingual customer service
Customer service includes an online service portal that supports vehicle administration. Ordering, reporting faults and replacing an on-board device is carried out via the service portal in German, French, Italian and English. There is also a special failure solution for subsequent data capture or changes. A telephone hotline also provides vehicle owners with personal support.
