The 31-year-old French 800m record holder (1:42.53), operated on a year ago for a tendon in his right thigh, experienced a recurrence and had to stop last April.

“After the operation, my hamstrings should have gotten better, it had given me a boost of energy, hope, desire, but this recurrence broke this dynamic,” the athlete declared to the sports daily.

“I’ve tried to get back on track these last few months. I went to Arcos de Valdevez in Portugal twice for three weeks where my parents have a house. I started swimming every day, I made a lot of progress. And I “tried to go for a run but quickly felt pain when I accelerated a little,” he continued.

“I no longer enjoy athletics. There is something unhealthy in this tendon, it is no longer in the game. The days go by, the Games are coming and at this rate, I will never be there” , regrets the Frenchman.

World champion in London in 2017, Pierre-Ambroise Bosse has also been five times French champion and twice bronze medalist at the European Championships (2012 in Helsinki and 2018 in Berlin).

He placed third at the French Championships in 2022, following finishing sixth at the European Indoor Championships in 2021 in Torun (Poland).

His last competition dates back to July 2022 at the Nancy meeting where he finished in eighth position.

“Hard to admit

In 2019, Pierre-Ambroise Bosse was sentenced to a fine of 1,000 euros for a violent drunken brawl, one night in August 2017 in Gironde, during which he was seriously injured in the face, which led to the end of his life. premature season.

In fact, since his world title, Bosse has never regained the state of grace of the magical night of August 2017 in London.

From injuries to changes of coaches added to the fight in Gironde, his image had been seriously tarnished and his morale greatly affected. At the end of 2020 it even lost its equipment supplier (Puma).

Before his world title, the native of Nantes (1.85 m, 68 kg) finished at the foot of the podium (4th) at the Rio Olympics in 2016 but was eliminated before the final during those in Tokyo in July 2021.

With death in his soul, “PAB” will never realize his Olympic dream. When he understood that his body would not allow him to line up in Paris, the athlete admitted to having “spent days in (his) bed”.

“I no longer went out, I no longer played sports, I must not have been good to look at,” he continues. “I internalized a lot. At first I did not dare to tell my loved ones so as not to hurt them. My mother’s dream was for me to go to the Games in Paris. The end of my career is still hard to admit.”
