The container ship MSC BHAVYA 5, immobilized in the North Sea since Monday due to a bomb threat on board, was able to resume its route, the FPS Mobility said on Tuesday.
The ship left Turkey on December 9 and was due to reach the port of Antwerp via Hamburg. The docking was planned for December 27, but, following the alert, the boat was prohibited from accessing the Western Scheldt and was ordered to drop anchor in the North Sea. Federal police then opened an investigation to determine whether there was indeed an explosive device on board.
“The presence of a car bomb on board the container ship MSC BHAVYA 5 was reported on December 25 at 2:00 p.m. via emergency center 101 in Antwerp,” the FPS Mobility said on Tuesday.
“After examining the cargo of the container ship and the analysis of the Coordination Body for Threat Analysis (OCAM), the president of the National Maritime Safety Authority (ANSM) decided that the “alert was not credible and there were not sufficient reasons to prohibit the ship from accessing the port”, added the FPS Mobility. The situation will nevertheless be closely monitored.
