Cyprien Sarrazin opened the speed week in Bormio with a best training time. The Frenchman was 0.41 seconds faster on Tuesday than the American Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who won the Super-G in Bormio in 2020. The best Austrian was Daniel Danklmaier from Styria in 14th place. From the group of favorites, the seven-time Stelvio winner Dominik Paris, including the Super-G, showed the fastest training run and finished seventh.
The Swiss Marco Odermatt and the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde took tenth and eleventh place one following the other on St. Stefani Day. Last year’s winner Vincent Kriechmayr ended up 23rd in an Austrian pack. Stefan Babinsky (22nd) and World Cup leader Marco Schwarz, Daniel Hemetsberger and Christopher Neumayer were also represented in ranks 24 to 26.
Felix Hacker (43rd), Stefan Rieser (57th) and Manuel Traninger (66th), who will mainly be in action in the European Cup this season, are also there in Bormio. Otmar Striedinger was at the back of the field in 53rd place. Raphael Haaser retired on the difficult route.
So far this season, following all competitions in Zermatt/Cervinia and Beaver Creek were canceled, only two downhill runs have been included in the rankings. In Val Gardena, the American Bryce Bennett and Paris prevailed, the ÖSV athletes each missed out on the top places. Kriechmayr won the Super-G in Val Gardena.
