WHAT DID LISANDRO MEZA DIE FROM?

The renowned Colombian singer-songwriter had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit since December 6, 2023. Although the clinic kept his prognosis confidential, it was not until December 22 when it reported that his condition was critical. Lisandro Meza ceased to exist due to cerebral ischemia, at the age of 86.

Days before, his children announced that they took the artist to the clinic following he suffered intense headaches, to which was added the diagnosis of a neurological disease. Although they were confident of his improvement, as he responded to the treatment, he died 17 days later.

It should be noted that cerebral ischemia is a condition caused by “a blood clot that blocks or plugs a blood vessel in the brain. This prevents blood from flowing to this organ. In a matter of minutes, brain cells begin to die” publishes the specialized portal .

WHO WAS LISANDRO MEZA?

Lisandro Meza was a renowned Colombian artist who dedicated more than 50 years of his life to music. In his more than half a century of musical career, he recorded around 110 albums in different rhythms: cumbia, porro, Paseo and vallenato.

The well-known “El Macho de América” was born in El Piñal, Los Palmitos municipality, Sucre, on September 26, 1937. When he was 17 years old, he began singing on his father’s farm La Armenia, where he demonstrated his ability to play various songs. instruments such as the accordion, the piano, the guitar, the bass, the treble, the cuatro, the tumbadora, snare drum and the bagpipes.

It was in 1959 when he composed the ride “El Saludo”, a song that made him very popular. After this song, other hits followed such as “La cap no se me ca” (1963), “La miseria humano” (1976), “El guayabo de la ye” (1978), “Baracunatana” (1981), among others. In 1965, he formed his own group to entertain traditional dances and festivals, but at the same time he was part of Los Corraleros de Majagual.

Thinking regarding becoming the King of Vallenato, he participated in the Vallenata Legend Festival in 1969, but he did not occupy a prominent position, although he did win the affection of the public who baptized him as “The King without a Crown”, a nickname that would become in song. He insisted in 1975, the year in which he came in second place. It was not until 1978 that he was awarded King Sabanero of the Accordion in a vallenato contest held in Sincelejo.

Lisandro Meza’s songs are known not only in his native Colombia, but also in other countries in America. Among his successful songs are: “El Macho”, “Ni que estar loco”, “El Hijo de Tuta”, “Senderito de amor”, “Lejanía”, among others.

His legacy will remain in the memory of several generations who grew up listening to his songs, many of them essential in celebrations.
