An Israeli soldier has reportedly died of a deadly fungus while fighting in the Gaza Strip. During the war, the soldier injured his limbs and later succumbed to a fungal infection. Tests revealed a strain of the fungus resistant to treatments.
Professor Galia Rahab, Chairperson of the Department of Infectious Disease Prevention and former Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Sheba Hospital, said that regarding 10 soldiers who were injured during the conflict in Gaza were infected with this unknown fungus.

Rahab says contaminated soil can be a breeding ground for these dangerous fungi. They indicated that an investigation would be conducted to find out if there was any connection between the fungi in the area and the underground tunnel networks. The Israel Society for Infectious Diseases will hold an emergency meeting with epidemiological experts from the IDF and the Ministry of Health.
