Every person wants his wedding to be very grand and lavish. But the common people of Afghanistan (Afghanistan), which is facing a financial crisis, cannot even wish to “wish like this”. After the Taliban returned to power in August 2021 Afghanistan’s economy is in dire straits Passing by To reduce the cost of marriage, Afghans have even gone so far as to practice mass marriages. It can be said that group marriage has now become a custom in Afghanistan.

A news agency reports that around fifty couples got married in a mass wedding ceremony in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Monday. Although it was a community wedding, the ceremonies were more or less simple. The Taliban government has banned dancing and music at wedding ceremonies. The Taliban claim that dance and music are un-Islamic.

Can’t afford the wedding expenses

The wedding ceremony was organized in a wedding hall near Kabul airport. It is also noteworthy that not a single woman participated in this marriage ceremony. After the wedding, the newlyweds’ cars were decorated with green ribbons and plastic roses.

18-year-old Ruhullai Rezai was the person who got married in this community marriage ceremony. Rezai says that he cannot afford the wedding expenses and that’s why he chose community marriage. If you want to get married in a traditional way, it will cost at least 2 to 2.5 lakh Afghan rupees. Rezai says that they also have to pay 10,000 to 15,000 Afghani rupees to get married.

Ruhullai Rezai, who lives in Afghanistan’s Ghor province, is a member of the Hazara minority community. Rezai earns only 350 Afghan rupees per day. This amount is not enough. If relatives and locals are added, there will be 300 to 400 people. But Rezai says he invited only 35 people to his wedding.

1600 dollars will be received as a prize

This community wedding was organized by Selab Foundation. Apart from the wedding expenses, the organization gives a gift of US$ 1600 to the newlyweds. This 1600 dollars is a huge amount for the people of Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries in the world.

Apart from money, the organization also provides wedding kits to all couples. The kit includes toothpaste, shampoo, moisturizer, carpet, blanket and some household items. 600 couples had applied for this mass wedding which took place on Monday. But only 50 couples were able to get married. A long queue of brides and grooms can be seen in Afghanistan to participate in such social gatherings.
