District in Tyrol not accessible after rock fall

Around 250 residents of Hochgallmigg were affected, the state of Tyrol said. The authorities have not yet been able to estimate how long the road closure will have to remain in place.

The reason for this is that the slope at Hochgallmiggstrasse was still moving over a length of around 25 meters. “It is therefore necessary to remove the moving material and then secure the slope. Once this work has been completed, the situation will be assessed once more,” said state geologist Petra Nittel-Gärtner.

An airlift was set up to ensure medical care in Hochgallmigg. The volunteer fire department set up a helipad and a transport helicopter from the Federal Army was requested. “Until the armed forces arrive, supplies will be ensured by the state helicopter,” said Mayor Alexander Jäger
