The large-scale national dance drama “Awakening Lion” dances with the spirit of the blazing lion, waking up more than just the lion. The dance drama “Awakening Lion” premiered in 2018. It uses the anti-British struggle in Sanyuanli, Guangzhou during the First Opium War as the background of the story. It tells the story of two young lion dancers facing different lives such as love, hatred, family and country, etc. The self-awakening and transformation during the decision-making process reflect the indomitable fighting spirit of the children of southern Guangdong. In addition to authentic Nanquan, the dance drama “Awakening Lion” also incorporates many southern Guangdong intangible cultural heritage elements such as Guangdong lion drums, Lingnan music style, and Muyu rap, which is like the epitome of the collision and integration of the humanities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
