A series with complex themes
“A Murder at the End of the World” is a creation by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, the duo behind the strange and seductive series “The AO”, broadcast on Netflix in 2016. Providing many twists and surprises, this investigation with the appearance of “murder party” brings together all the ingredients of the genre and might seem very classic.
Except that under the guise of life-size Cluedo, the plot is more complex than it seems. It develops current themes, such as the problem of artificial intelligence or that of climate change. And this is where we discover the double meaning of the expression “end of the world” present in the original title (“bout du monde” or “end of the world”).
If we add that the Icelandic landscapes are breathtaking, the production sublime and the casting delightful, it is not surprising that the production of “A Murder at the End of the World” is found on numerous lists establishing the best series released in 2023. With its winter climate, this is a great proposition for the end of the year.
