Colosseum vandalized: 17-year-old Swiss woman among worst tourists of the year
She had engraved her initials on the legendary monument this summer. Her gesture earned her the nomination in an unenviable competition.

Mass tourism rarely rhymes with respect for heritage. As usual, “CNN” published the list of the worst tourists of the year. A 17-year-old Swiss woman appears there. Last July, the young woman was filmed engraving her name on the Colosseum in Italy. The more than 2,000-year-old monument has often been targeted: the following day, a German tourist was caught doing the same. And the month before, a Bulgarian tourist living in England had listed “Ivan + Hayley 23”, then claiming that he did not know that the Colosseum was an ancient monument. A few days later, a German engraver was also surprised.
The young Swiss woman, on vacation in Rome with her family, was arrested following her act of vandalism and taken to the police station. She risks a prison sentence as well as a fine of up to 15,000 euros.
The Colosseum in Rome has been the victim of depredations several times.

“A certificate of stupidity”
Also included in this ranking is a Chinese influencer: she cooked and ate a great white shark – a protected species – in a livestream. Which earned him a fine of 125,000 yuan, or around 16,000 francs. A Russian tourist was expelled from Indonesia by local authorities for photographing himself shirtless in a sacred place in Bali, Mount Agung.
In March, a man jumped into a canal from the third floor of a building in Venice. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro then tweeted that he would give this person “a certificate of stupidity and a lot of kicks” if he found him.
Last May in Yellowstone National Park, a tourist touched a newly born bison that was away from the herd. However, it is clearly indicated that it is forbidden to approach animals within 25 meters. After this interaction, the “little” beast was rejected by its peers and began approaching park visitors. He had to be euthanized by forest rangers.
