Thrissur ∙ Pooram crisis not resolved. The discussion led by Ministers K. Radhakrishnan and K. Rajan, which brought together representatives of the Cochin Devaswom Board and the officials of Paramekkau and Thiruvampadi Devaswom, broke up without a decision. The ministers did not give a clear decision on reducing the ground rent of the show city.

The ministers said following the meeting that no decision will be taken without seeking the permission of the court. The Devaswom Minister also stated that the government will not do anything to obstruct Puram. The Cochin Devaswom Board said that the decision to increase the ground rent from Rs 39 lakh last year to Rs 2.20 crore this year belongs to the court. The Cochin Devaswom Board has taken the position that no other decision can be taken in this meeting as the court case is scheduled to be heard on the next 4th. They also took the position that the rent cannot be reduced.

The Thiruvampadi Devaswom informed that if the increased amount is decided, it will have to take a tough stand. The government convened the meeting when CPM representative Cochin Devaswom Board President MK Sudarshan was accused of trying to destroy Thrissur Pooram and the opposition parties went on strike.
