Colombian Passport Fees: New Pricing and Application Process for 2024

The Colombian passport is a document issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has international validity and grants legal permission or authorization for a citizen to leave or enter the country, whether for tourism, education, work or residence, therefore which is the most important identification document abroad and can be of various colors depending on the nation that issues it.

Recently, it became known that said document might increase in price, since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing a resolution that will increase the value from 2024.

To date, current fees for ordinary passports are $121,000 in Bogotá and $185,000 outside the capital, including an additional stamp tax in both locations. However, with the application of this resolution, it is estimated that the fee for the ordinary passport will rise to $206,000, while the executive passport would be $314,597 in national territory.

This adjustment in passport fees seeks to adjust to economic changes and the increase in operating costs, thus ensuring the necessary financing to continue providing an efficient service to citizens in terms of issuance of travel documents.

According to the proposal, these will be the rates for issuing passports in the national territory:

Electronic passports:

  • Ordinary Electronic Passport: 136,000
  • Electronic Executive Passport: 244,000
  • Electronic Diplomatic Passport: 136,000
  • Official Electronic Passport: 136,000

Passport with machine readable area

  • Emergency passport with machine readable area: 192,000
  • Land crew notebooks: 66,000
  • Renewal of ground crew notebooks: 33,000

According to the draft resolution, the value of the passport would be $136,000, to which is added the stamp tax set at $70,597, that is, the total value for the passport for 2024 would be $206,000 in Bogotá, for the other regions it will be determined by departmental taxes.

It was learned that apostilles and legalization of documents will also have an increase, remaining at $36,000 pesos and $25,000 pesos, respectively.

Is it necessary to present a passport in all countries?

No, although it is the international accreditation document. According to the National Registry of Civil Status, there is a list of nations in which Colombians only need a digital ID to be able to enter their territories.

4. Subsequently, you must accept the processing of personal data and click ‘Continue’.

5. There you can finish filling out your information, choose the day and time of the appointment you want to schedule and, by clicking on the ‘Continue’ button, it will already be scheduled. You will receive confirmation and details of your appointment by email.

At what time can an appointment be scheduled to obtain the passport?

According to its website, passport appointment scheduling is virtual and is enabled at 5:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday. The cost of the procedure varies depending on the type of passport and the city where it is requested. Delivery time in Bogotá is 24 hours from the moment payment is made.

In order to effectively enter this portal and be able to proceed with the scheduling process with the requested personal data, it is important to enter before the opening time, 5:00 pm, and try to update the page until appointments are enabled.
