Paris 2024: “Dear Santa”…

2023-12-24 05:30:20

LThe hour is approaching. Like the children, who swear to have been – more or less – good over the past year, the actors in the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP) of Paris 2024 are probably, too, impatient to see if Santa Claus has read the letters they sent to him, and in which they detailed what would give them the greatest pleasure to find under the tree. Thanks to the indiscretions of the secretariat of the man with the white beard and the red coat, it is possible for us to reveal some of the requests which appeared in these missives – specifying nevertheless that what follows is (partially) fictional…

“Dear Santa Claus”… Tony Estanguet would have asked for a tool kit. The president of the Games Organizing Committee (Cojop) undoubtedly has in mind being able to participate in the construction, on the Teahupoo site in Tahiti, of a tower on which the judges and television can be installed for the Olympic surfing event.

The installation of this tower and the controversies it arouses, due to the risks it would pose to the environment, constitute one of the latest headaches for Cojop. There will probably be others in the home stretch in 2024, between Olympic sites to take charge, budget not to let drift, opening ceremony on the Seine to finish organizing…

It is probably in the perspective of this river parade that the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, would have ordered a state-of-the-art anti-drone drone. This parade represents a challenge for the security services. Government and organizers have assured that this is the only project they are working on. That all risks are considered. Subject to possible adaptations. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, wanted to clarify, Wednesday December 20, that, among these adaptations, there is a plan B which would consist of not marching on the Seine.

Still a little way to go before experiencing a Christmas in summer

Adaptations may also be necessary in terms of transportation. The public authorities have assured that everything will be ” ready “ to transport the 800,000 spectators expected each day, in addition to regular users. Given the state of the metro network, however, they have started to invite them to… adapt, by taking their leave or teleworking during the Olympic summer. Could the order for a miniature metro by the Minister for Transport, Clément Beaune, have a link to this context?
