Ultra-light, rich in features and at a competitive price, the Decathlon electric road bike is sure to appeal. Available in several sizes, it is suitable for both men and women.

With a solid range of mountain bikes, electric city bikes and cargo bikes, Decathlon is now tackling a little-explored category. Particularly the electric racing bike. Thus, this French Ecommerce giant announces the launch of the first durable electric model. In other words, an ultra-light electric road bike capable of accompanying its rider through mountain passes or during long outings lasting several hours.

Decathlon’s first ever ultra-light electric road bike

The French leader in sports equipment is enriching its range of VAEs by launching the E-EDR AF APEX AXS 12S from the Van Rysel brand. Very light, the M size of this Decathlon electric road bike weighs only 14 kilos. Moreover, this two-wheeler was designed for long-distance use, on the road and in the mountains, and has been optimized according to these conditions.

In terms of design, this electric bike stands out for its classic aluminum frame, available in feminine and masculine versions. As for its geometry, it favors endurance, that is to say a more comfortable driving position, conducive to cruising speed. However, the position is rather recumbent given that it is a racing bike.

The simplicity of design is offset by a build quality that leaves nothing to chance. In fact, this electric road bike from Decathlon includes a BC 900 indicator. The latter allows you to monitor the state of the battery, its remaining autonomy as well as the level of assistance. To benefit from a more detailed report, simply connect it to the Decathlon Connect app.

Up to 160 km of autonomy

Decathlon’s electric road bike relies on quality equipment, in addition to being ultra-light. In fact, for the motor and the battery, it uses the German manufacturer Mahle. He proposes an X35 block combined with a small battery (250 Wh), all representing approximately 3.5 kg. Although the motor only offers a torque of 40 Nm, this battery can however accommodate another unit. The latter allowsincrease vehicle range to 160 km. However, these characteristics are enough, knowing that a road bike wants to be as light as possible.

For the rest, Decathlon has kept its word by equipping its bike with a SRAM transmission system. Braking has also been entrusted with 160 mm hydraulic discs. For the tire, the brand used its stock with 32 mm Van Rysel tubeless tires.

The price, for its part, is once once more very attractive. Although the electric road bike is still underdeveloped, Van Rysel’s is a serious competitor. Posted at 2 800 €, it is far from being a luxury model. However, for similar mechanical characteristics, the competition is more expensive (between €700 and €1,000). Lighter, perfectly equipped and sold at a knockdown price, Decathlon’s electric road bike will quickly establish itself as THE market benchmark.
