Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions: Head Coach Matt Eberflus’ Final Chance for a Signature Win

2023-12-10 08:00:00

The Chicago Bears will host the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Soldier Field in a game that will serve as the final opportunity for head coach Matt Eberflus to add a signature win to his profile.

The Bears have four wins on the season but considering they were once morest the Washington Commanders, Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers, and a Minnesota Vikings team without quarterback Kirk Cousins or wide receiver Justin Jefferson; their victories do not carry much weight.

Eberflus has held up the fact that the team is 4-4 in their last 8 games as a token that things are improving for the team. The issue is that the Bears have proven the distance they still have to go when facing playoff-caliber competition.

That was the reason why the Bears’ loss to the Lions in Detroit earlier this month should still be the primary piece of evidence this coaching staff needs to be fired following this season. The Bears were up by two possessions with four minutes remaining in the game before the Lions scored 17 unanswered points.

The silver lining for Eberflus is that he has the opportunity to correct that mistake on Sunday.

With there being an uptick in the possibility that Eberflus might return for a third season, it needs to come with a signature win. Short of the Green Bay Packers facing the Bears at the end of the season with a chance to make the playoffs, Sunday’s game once morest the Lions will be the last opportunity for Eberflus to show that there is legitimate progress being made.
