Belgian Criminal Sentenced and Found: Collaboration between Belgian, Dutch, and Spanish Authorities

The Belgian was sentenced in March 2020 by the Antwerp Court of Appeal to seven years of imprisonment with immediate arrest for his participation in acts of theft with violence, extortion, illegal deprivation of liberty, death threats, offenses once morest legislation on drugs, fraud and breach of trust. Absent at his trial, the man had been actively sought since then, the police said.

He had already been arrested in Spain in 2021, but was released on conditions pending extradition to Belgium. He might not be located during his actual transfer and the search had to start once more.

The individual was found through a collaboration between the Belgian federal police, Europol, FAST (Fugitive Active Search Team) NL and the Spanish police services.

“In addition to the Belgian justice system, the Dutch authorities are also demanding the extradition of the individual. He has been imprisoned in Spain awaiting a decision from the Spanish judicial authorities regarding his extradition to Belgium” , further details the police.
