Austria’s golf star Sepp Straka celebrates being number 18 in the world rankings. Christmas, which means he beats his and the previous best placement of an Austrian in the ranking from the beginning of the month by two positions. The Viennese has 52 events in the ranking, none of the players listed before him have more. Scottie Scheffler has 44, the American is the undisputed number one following the 2022/23 season. He finished in the top ten in a total of 17 tournaments.
This means that Scheffler scored more points for consistency than Jon Rahm for victories; the Spaniard was the only one to win four titles this season. Only the Norwegian Viktor Hovland managed three, Scheffler and seven others each struck twice. Straka was one of 32 professionals with a tournament victory, namely the one in July in Silvis, Illinois. The 30-year-old added four more top ten finishes with two second places – including at the British Open. When approaching the hole more than 300 m, Straka is number two on the tour.
Straka’s earnings in prize money in the past season amounted to $5,287,584 (4.80 million euros), which puts him in 34th place in the PGA rankings. Scheffler also leads here, with 21,014,342 dollars (19.06 million euros). This includes $4.5 million (€4.08 million) for winning the Players Championship. 139 PGA Tour players earned more than $1 million (907,194.05 euros), another 49 on the LIV Tour. Everyone is there with at least six events played. Bernd Wiesberger from Burgenland played all 13 LIV events in 2023.
Talor Gooch also, but far more successful than the Austrian who came in eleventh place. The American celebrated, among other things, three victories and collected a total of 35.3 million dollars (32.02 million euros), including 18 million dollars (16.33 million euros) for number 1 status Trip. Scheffler, on the other hand, was undisputed in a number of statistics at the PGA level. He needed an average of 68.63 strokes for his rounds. Only US superstar Tiger Woods has been better so far, six times (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2009).
