This year’s export volume of seaweed, a representative export ‘good product’ of South Chungcheong Province, exceeded 200 billion won for the first time as a single seafood product, achieving the highest performance ever.
According to South Chungcheong Province on the 22nd, the amount of seaweed exports as of last month was $170.37 million (regarding 221.39 billion won), a 24.9% increase from $136.43 million in the same period last year.
Total seafood exports amounted to $187.11, and are expected to reach $200 million for the first time when the results are counted by the end of this month.
The export amount by item is $106.35 million for seasoned seaweed (an increase of 23.3%), $64.02 million for dried seaweed (an increase of 27.6%), and $4.46 million for other canned seafood (an increase of 386.5%).
Seaweed accounts for 91.1% of total exports.

According to the import and export status announced by the Korea Customs Service on the 29th, the export amount of seaweed from January to October this year was $670 million, a 20.4% increase from the same period last year. It is the second largest following Jeonnam at $231.82 million (31.6%).
The United States was the largest country exporting seaweed from the province at $40.66 million. This is a 28.3% increase from $31.68 million in the same period last year.
This was followed by China at $29.56 million (7.3% decrease), Indonesia $16.8 million (62.5% increase), Thailand $9.38 million (38.5% increase), Vietnam $7.89 million (43.8% increase), and Taiwan $7.5 million (43.8% increase). , followed by Japan at $7.25 million (an increase of 99.8%).
This year, the province participated in international food exhibitions in the United States, Indonesia, and Thailand, and also held promotional events at large overseas distribution stores.
